With Growth comes Enhanced Service!

Bright World Guardianships continues to grow each year and each year we try and improve the service we provide to our clients as well a continuing to improve the level of safeguarding we offer each child under our care.  Having gone through another great year of growth, we have decided to restructure the Guardianship Department which will mean that our agents and parents will have teams of people dedicated to certain jobs and this should really improve things.

With this in mind, we employed Avril Griffin earlier this year as Director of Operations.  Avril, pictured above, has been working in this industry for more than 20 years and brings a huge amount of experience and expertise to Bright World.  From this month, Avril will head up our UK operations team.

We are delighted, therefore to announce that we have a new member of staff who comes to us as Travel Manager.  Managing relationships with our drivers and organising transport for students to and from airports around the UK will now be the job of Hannah Newton.  Hannah will entirely manage this part of the programme under the watchful eye of Avril.

New airport meet and greet partners, Airport Angels will also work closely with Hannah to offer an enhanced service to those children who are arriving unaccompanied and whose parents want an additional level of care.  Working with Airport Angels means that we are now able to offer our clients Airside pick up and escorting service right to the aeroplane.

The Guardianship Care Manager team will now be able to focus entirely on host families and general pastoral care for our students.  You will still have one Guardianship Care Manager for your child but in addition you will have a dedicated Travel Manager to assist you with your airport transfers and UK travel.

We are currently also reviewing our Emergency Phone service at the moment as we grow the phone becomes more and more busy at peak times.  We will be offering clients options when they call the emergency number that will direct them more quickly to a Duty Manager who can help them. We will send you more information on this soon.

Record 'Diamond' GCSE results for New Hall School

Students at New Hall School, leading Catholic boarding and day school in Chelmsford, are celebrating record breaking GCSE results.  Those celebrating outstanding achievements at the BrightWorld Partner UK Boarding School, include Pippa O’Riley, from Witham, who secured 12 A*/A grades, Lucy Ashfield, from Ingatestone, who earned 11 A* grades, as well as Year 8 student, Lucy Greenwood, from Chelmsford, who earned an A* Mathematics GCSE 3 years early.

Students at the historic school, in its 370th anniversary year, are celebrating remarkable growth at top grades compared with last year, with a 50% increase in A* grades.  As well as 21% of all GCSEs being awarded A*, a record 52% of grades were at A*/A and a record 28 students achieved at least 9-12 A*/A grades.  The outstanding results at New Hall are in contrast to the national picture, where the grades fell overall.  Once again New Hall announced a 100% success rate.

New Hall School operates the distinctive and highly successful ‘Diamond Model’ structure, which sees boys and girls taught in single-sex classes from Year 7 to the end of their GCSEs, whilst still enjoying the benefits of a co-educational campus.

This year, both girls and boys at New Hall have achieved exceptional results in a number of challenging academic subjects, including Sciences and Mathematics; girls have performed particularly well in these areas, usually dominated by boys nationally. Bucking the national trend of decline in languages and low numbers of high grades, across 3 Modern Languages at New Hall the school is celebrating a remarkable total of 37% of grades at the very top A* grade, with a record number of students taking Spanish and achieving A*/A grades.

Top performers from the Girls’ Division include Pippa O’Riley from Witham (pictured above left), who secured 9 A* grades and 3 A grades, Lucy Ashfield, from Ingatestone (also pictured above right), who earned 11 A* grades and Isobel Ovenden, from Chelmsford, who celebrated 8 A* grades and 3 A grades and secured 100% in all four history papers, placing her top nationally.  In the Boys’ Division, Conor Moylan, from Leigh on Sea, earned 5 A* grades and 5 A grades.  Jonathan Chao earned 5 A* grades and 6 A grades. Thanks to the support of the New Hall Learning Development Department, Coran Allen, from Chelmsford, is celebrating after overcoming the challenges of severe dyslexia, to achieve 8 A* grades, 2 A grades and 1 B.

Principal, Katherine Jeffrey, said: “In our special 370th anniversary year, we are delighted to be able to celebrate these record results with our students today. The entire year group should be immensely proud of their achievements. We believe these results are a testament to the success of New Hall’s pioneering ‘Diamond Model’, which provides the best of both worlds: the benefits of a co-educational environment together with the advantages of girls and boys being taught separately at Key Stage 3 and for GCSE. The provision of single-sex education during formative years enables students to grow in confidence, whilst enjoying an education that is specifically tailored and that recognises the different ways in which boys and girls learn.”

Deputy Principal, Jo Storey, said: “At New Hall the curriculum is distinctive in its breadth and academic rigour, which helps every student to realise his or her academic potential; we are delighted with the record results at A*/A achieved this year. Students have achieved an excellent academic foundation to progress on to our newly re-located and refurbished Sixth Form Centre, which will provide a first class, university-style learning environment. ”

Head of Sixth Form, James Alderson, said: “Our students have so much to celebrate today, with these tremendous results. I look forward to building on this success in future years, as we welcome them to our new Sixth Form Centre which opens this September.”

New Hall School welcomes students from the local Chelmsford area, as well as those from around the world. Boarding students have been attracted by New Hall’s international reputation for its distinctive curriculum and academic excellence and for the range of co-curricular opportunities available.  The pastoral care system and boarding provision, rated ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted, allow students to enjoy learning in a supportive community, where teamwork and the importance of developing life skills and moral integrity are emphasised.

New Hall was the first independent school nationally to sponsor a primary school.  Staff at its sponsored partner school, Messing Primary School, near Colchester, were delighted to hear of the New Hall student successes at GCSE.

BLINK gets a new look!

To help improve our communication with clients overseas, Managing Director, Lana Foster and newly appointed, Operations Director, Avril Griffin have redeveloped our online student/parent portal, BLink. The finished product, which officially launched last week, will dramatically change and improve the way in which we interact with our clients overseas.

Once a student enrols on the guardianship programme, their main contact/representative will receive a unique login to BLink. The BLink profile page includes a timeline of activity, where helpful icons help show all communication made between Bright World and child. BLink will allow parents to read detailed reports so that they can keep track on their child’s progression here in the UK. A photo album will also be created to and added to throughout the year, so that parents who are unable to visit their child can view photos of them enjoying School life.

In order to best present and describe our future developments and plans, we have likened these to a 3 course meal.

 So for your starter and and first course at the ‘BLink bistro,’ you will get the following delights;

- A whole new design, look and feel to BLink
- University guardianship student individual BLink profiles.
- Videos and photos of your Guardianship Care Manager, Bright World Buddy and Regional Counsellor
- SMS messages between child and buddy uploaded to BLINK
- Your BLINK Guide which tells you exactly how to get around the portal

You may have to wait a little while for your main course but when it comes you will get the following treats well worth waiting for;

- Finance page where you and the parent can view disbursement statements and invoices
- Parents able to pay by credit card using World Pay
- Flight pages where you and the parent can log flight information and submit directly into our  head office system.
- Travel and accommodation arrangements to be viewable online. Parents and agents will also be able to download Host Family profiles.
- Reports written the Bright World Buddy available for viewing on BLink.

And finally the best bit DESSERT

-‘Real time’ Integration. When our office based system launches onto the Icloud, you will be able to see exactly what we are doing on behalf of your student in live time.
- Daily Workload Manager BLink will tell you when student reports are ready and waiting for your authorisation.
-Host Family Inspections. Our Bright World Buddies will be able to upload Host Family interviews and inspections directly BLink.
- Improved Flexibility in the way in how we develop our customer interface.

“Following many years of change and growth at Bright World there has been
much development of the Access system as its functionality changes to keep pace with the needs of the business. Moving to a web based system will offer us more flexibility in how we interact with our customers and each other. Once launched new developments can be
rolled out as needed, making us more responsive to the needs of the business and our customers."

Avril Griffin, Director of Operations.(pictured above)

We hope BLINK will help you in your work with Bright World and as a valued Partner we would greatly appreciate any comments or feedback you may have. Read our BLink Guide for more information.

Head Office Staff complete Specialist Child Protection Training

After completing their Level 3
 Specialist Child Protection Training
Bright World Head Office staff have now come to the end of their training with UK based charity organisation, Child-safe. This means that we have now completed the first phase of our Safeguarding challenge to ensure that ALL Bright World Head Office staff are Child Protection trained to the highest level possible.

During the final stage of training, participants covered some difficult and challenging issues as a team. Trainees were also made aware of the support systems now available and were reminded of how to report and manage safeguarding issues. It is important for you as Host Families to remember to relay/report any issues which you feel may be within the domain of child protection straight to Head Office. We have designated Child Protection officers who are trained on how to manage issues which fall under this bracket.
please contact Director of Guardianships, Fiona Walters with any concerns.
